Preparing for Fall Star Diagnostic

STAR Reading & Math Diagnostics: What Parents Need to Know!

As we gear up for the new school year, our middle schoolers will be taking the STAR Reading and STAR Math diagnostic assessments on Monday, August 17th and Tuesday, August 18th.

Here is a quick overview of what these diagnostics are and how you can help your student do their best!

What is the STAR Diagnostic?

The STAR diagnostic is a computer-adaptive assessment designed to give teachers, parents and students a clear, accurate snapshot of where each student stands in reading and math. It is essential for demonstrating a student’s growth throughout the year!

  • Not a High-Stakes Test: This is not a test that kids pass or fail, nor does it impact their report card grades.
  • Personalized Learning: The questions adapt to your child's level as they answer. The results help teachers tailor instruction, select the right reading materials, and target areas where students may need extra support or extra challenge.

📝 Diagnostic Schedule

  • Monday, August 17th: STAR Reading Diagnostic
  • Tuesday, August 18th: STAR Math Diagnostic

💡 How Parents Can Help Students Prepare

Because this is a diagnostic assessment, students do not need to study or cram! However, you can help them feel confident and ready to perform their best with these simple steps:

  • Get a Good Night’s Sleep: Ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before each test day.
  • Eat a Healthy Breakfast: A solid morning meal helps maintain focus and energy throughout testing.
  • Bring the Essentials: Remind students to bring their fully charged school laptop/device, and charger.
  • Keep It Low-Pressure: Remind your child that this tool simply helps their teachers get to know them as learners. Encourage them to relax, take their time, and just give their best effort!

Questions? Feel free to reach out to the school. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our middle schoolers shine!
