Important Update on Smart Glasses (Meta Ray-Bans & Similar Tech)
As technology evolves, we remain committed to maintaining a safe, focused, and private learning environment for all our students. Recently, we have seen "Smart Glasses" (such as Meta Ray-Bans) on campus. While these look like stylish eyewear, they function as wearable computers with integrated cameras, microphones, and AI capabilities.
To ensure the well-being of our school community, Smart Glasses are prohibited on campus for the following reasons:
- Privacy & Safety: These devices allow for "stealth" recording at eye-level. To protect the privacy of students and staff, especially in sensitive areas like locker rooms, bathrooms, and classrooms, recording-capable eyewear is not permitted.
- Academic Integrity: Integrated AI and audio features allow users to look at exams or assignments and receive answers instantly through built-in speakers, creating significant challenges for fair testing and authentic learning.
- Distraction-Free Learning: Like smartphones, these devices provide constant access to social media and notifications, pulling a student’s attention away from the classroom and their peers.
Prescription Lenses: We understand that some students may have prescription lenses fitted into these frames. However, because the "smart" hardware cannot be disabled by the school, students with these frames will be asked to switch to a traditional, non-electronic pair of glasses during school hours.
Any smart glasses seen in use will be treated under our current electronic device policy, confiscated and held in the front office for parent pickup.
Mahalo for your continued support in keeping CKMS a safe space for every student to learn and grow.

Aloha CKMS Community,
This is a fun-filled week at CKMS with several unique learning experiences for our students.
On Wednesday, 15 of our 8th-grade Social Studies students will visit the County Council to observe a meeting and tour the historic building.
On Thursday and Friday, our 8th-grade class will engage in a special two-day learning experience. This trip was collaboratively organized by our entire 8th-grade faculty as an Interdisciplinary Planning (IDP) initiative, ensuring that lessons from all content areas are woven into one cohesive journey. The experience centers on Kumano I Ke Ala (to behold the path) and Ho’omalu Ke Kai (to protect the sea). Through this focus on stewardship and sustainability, our students are learning how to lead with purpose. We send a huge Mahalo to our teachers for their hard work and dedication in organizing these impactful opportunities.
Looking ahead, next week is Spirit Week! We are excited to see our students show their CKMS pride, so please keep in touch with your child to find out about the special dress-up days and themes.
Finally, your child will be bringing home their Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Family Report from the survey they took earlier this year. This report provides insight into how your child identifies their areas of strength and growth in key competencies such as Emotional Regulation, Perseverance, Growth Mindset, Self-Efficacy, Self-Management, and Sense of Belonging. Please take the time to review these results with your child to celebrate their progress and discuss their personal goals.
Mahalo for your continued support of our students and staff!
