SMARTER BALANCE ASSESSMENT in-person testing has been scheduled. The notification of testing has been mailed to current Blackboard Distance Learner parents and guardians. Opt out will be available to choose starting Feb.14th. If you would like to Opt out your child from testing, the form must be completed and turned in. The students will report to the Library by 8am on the testing dates. They will need to wear a mask and bring their fully charged school issued chromebook. If they would like a free school breakfast, please come no later than 7:30am. They may pick up a free school lunch upon completion of their exam. Here is the letter regarding the testing.
The LAST DAY OF SCHOOL for students is May 26th. Students should complete ALL work by that date and return their Chromebook and Charger to the school office (open between 7:30am and 4:30pm M-F) no later than MAY 27th!
The deadline for Distance Learning Applications for Semester 1 has passed. We will be accepting Applications in December for Semester 2.
CKMS Distance Learning Requirements
Students will be enrolled in an on-line platform(Blackboard Learn) Instructional delivery will be asynchronous and not the same material as the in-person school instruction/program.
A teacher will be assigned for progress monitoring but may not be there for specific content support. However, students can request content specific academic support.
The period of time commitment for the student to be 100% distance learning will be one semester and must be renewed after each session.
Final grades will be awarded at the end of the grading period and based on the grade assigned in the program. It is expected that all courses will be 100% complete by the deadline.
Students will be enrolled in classes necessary to progress toward meeting promotion/graduation requirements only. The Florida virtual school curriculum will be used for 4 CORE subjects in grades 6 through 8. Elective courses will not be available in our distance learning model.
Attendance will be taken daily through logon time as well as through completed assignment(s) daily to be counted “present.”
Lack of academic progress and/or poor attendance may be grounds to revoke/deny the distance learning option.
If after reading the criteria, you choose to have your child participate in the distance learning program, please submit the Distance Learning Acknowledgement Form as soon as possible. If assigned contract is not received we will assume that your child will be participating in "in-person" learning for the fall. While your child is enrolled in full distance learning, he/she can still participate in the following:
Access the school library or other school facilities (by appointment only).
Content specific virtual tutoring sessions (by your request).
Meet with an administrator, counselor, and/or other school officials (by appointment only).
Communication: Parents and students, when emailing any instructor for support, please put the following information in the subject bar: BB student (name) grade level. This will help the teachers more easily identify students that need assistance. Jennifer.Hreljac@k12.hi.us
Parents and students who are struggling to understand the Blackboard Platform can schedule an "on-boarding" session. Please email email@example.com to schedule this. You and your child can come to campus, spend about 30 minutes with the instructors and learn the system.

**Some Solutions to Recent Tech Questions** Some Chromebooks may need to be updated. Please click on the bottom corner of the Chromebook and click on the Settings gear, toward the top of the window, near the student's sign in logo. Then on the left column in the settings window, go to the bottom to About Chrome OS and click on it. That will open the Update page. Click "Check for Updates" and click restart once it is done. To add a printer from home: Please select a page to print. (Ctrl+P). Select destination "see more" from Print drop down window. Click "Manage" at the bottom of the window. Click on the "Printers" link. Click "Add Printer" blue link. Enter what you would like to call your printer in Name, like "Home" and enter your printer IP Address in Address. Click "Add" in the bottom right corner and you should be good to go! Error Messages in accessing Camera or Microphone: For example on Flipgrid - try copying and pasting the link in a New Tab, or Open in New Tab.
